What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Specialist for 24 Hour Crisis Center position at New Horizon Counseling Center?
We are seeking full time and part time Certified Peer Specialists and Peer Advocates to join the multidisciplinary team of its new Crisis Center (CC) in Valley Stream. The team includes Registered Nurses, Prescribers, Peers, Licensed Clinicians and CASACs.
The Crisis Center is a new community-based, community-inclusive voluntary BH/SUD/COD crisis service operating 24/7/365. CC provides immediate assessment and de-escalation with rapid access to services for acute symptoms, crises or for individuals seeking immediate interventions to all individuals ages 5 and older.
Candidates must be a high school graduate certified by NYS OMH and or OASAS as a Peer Specialist/Advocate, having graduated from a recognized peer specialist training program. Must be willing to utilize recovery experience to engage and support clients in crisis. At least one year of experience providing peer support to adults, children and adolescents with behavioral health and substance use disorders. Strong communication, documentation and organizational skills are required.
The CC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Full time positions are available to accommodate this operation.
Crisis Intervention responsibilities include:
· Works with licensed professionals in the provision of crisis intervention services Triage, screening
· Immediate assessment
· Person-Centered interventions
· Trauma-informed care
· Peer and recovery-oriented support
· Ongoing observation
· Care collaboration
· Aftercare planning and follow-up
· Wellness Self-Management services
· Provides individual peer support and wellness counseling, harm reduction counseling based on motivational interviewing
· Assists in linking individuals to support and self-help recovery resources
· Serves as an advocate and liaison
Bilingual (Spanish) is a PLUS
