The Housing Advocate provides comprehensive support to shelter residents as they work toward stable, independent, and violence-free lives. This role centers on helping clients develop housing transition plans, connect with critical resources, and secure safe, affordable housing options. The Housing Advocate upholds the mission and values of New Hope, Inc., including respect, empowerment, professionalism, and collaboration.
- Assist clients in navigating housing options, including subsidized programs like Section 8 and LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) properties
- Advocate on behalf of clients during landlord negotiations, lease agreements, and dispute resolution
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis management support to clients facing housing instability or eviction threats
- Educate clients on landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, and their rights under applicable laws
- Maintain accurate records using property management software such as Yardi or OneSite
- Collaborate with property managers, landlords, social workers, and addiction counselors to coordinate comprehensive support services
- Support clients in overcoming barriers related to addiction or mental health issues through motivational interviewing and social work techniques
- Prior experience in housing advocacy, social work, or property management preferred
- Knowledge of LIHTC programs, Section 8 housing vouchers, and Fair Housing regulations required
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively for clients’ housing needs
- Experience with crisis intervention and crisis management strategies essential
- Familiarity with property management software such as Yardi or OneSite is highly desirable
- Background in addiction counseling or mental health support is a plus
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally

Pay: $22.80 - $25.66 per hour
