Job Summary:

New Hope Academy seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music

education to students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Through carefully designed lesson plans

and engaging music classes, students are educated in music theory, musical instruments, and

music appreciation providing a foundation for students to grow in their knowledge, appreciation, enjoyment, and performance of music. In addition to daily lessons, this position will organize musical performances, including vocal and instrumental opportunities to give students experience in performance.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop lesson plans that introduce students to music theory, musical instruments, music

appreciation (composers and compositions) and various types of music.

• Conduct music lessons in general music, choral, and instrumental music to support students’

growth.

• Develop and refine music curriculum in congruence with New Hope Academy’s philosophy

of education.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers on composer studies.

• Plans, rehearses, and directs students in two musical programs (1st-2nd grades and 3rd-6th grades).

• Plan a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal

and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

• Provide opportunities for music ensembles including choir, percussion (Orff instrumentation), and musicals.

• Establish and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive

environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.

• Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff regarding musical performances.

• Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment

to prevent loss or abuse.

• Coordinate with Academic Director and staff in providing musical programs for school

assemblies, school events, community outreach and seasonal programs.

• Create a positive class environment that supports learning.

• Supervise students both in and out of the class and at school-sanctioned functions.

• Commitment to the mission and vision of New Hope Academy

• Relationship with Jesus Christ

• Ability and desire to work with a diverse group of individuals

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum BA in Music or Music Educa:on

• Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment

• Orff, Kodaly, or Dalcroze training strongly encouraged

Preferred Requirements:

• Teaching experience

• Knowledge and experience of classical education and/or Charlotte Mason philosophy
