ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Drafter / Plans Technician to join our Plans team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining construction drawings across our active communities, assembling townhome plans in AutoCAD, and working within our Higharc platform to develop and manage daily-use plans. This is a hands-on, collaborative role that sits at the intersection of design, engineering coordination, and field operations.
AutoCAD proficiency is a hard requirement along with a genuine eagerness to learn new software. Higharc is not widely used in the industry — we will train the right candidate from the ground up. If you pick up technology quickly and bring strong CAD fundamentals, you will thrive here.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans Production
- Draw new home plans and update existing plans in AutoCAD and Higharc
- Assemble townhome plans in AutoCAD
- Create and maintain electrical layout drawings
- Design custom options and field-specific plan requests for sales and purchasing
- Review lot-specific plans generated from Higharc
Plan Management & Coordination
- Maintain current Master Sets — original PDFs and Higharc versions
- Ensure purchasing and trade partners always have the most current drawings
- Notify the team of plan updates, corrections, errors, and resolutions
- Review engineered plans and coordinate with structural engineers
- Coordinate with truss manufacturers on structural documentation
- Review website team (Anewgo) work for plan accuracy
- Prepare plan packages for new starts: draft in Higharc, obtain engineer stamps, combine, and distribute
Higharc Platform
- Build and maintain daily-use plans in Higharc
- Participate in new plan development on the Higharc platform
- Keep Communities, CDM, and Models current within Higharc
- Attend weekly meetings with the Higharc team
Prototype Walks & Field Coordination
- Prepare documentation for new plan prototype walks
- Participate in prototype walkthroughs with the team and field leadership
- Track prototype walk changes and keep engineers updated
- Maintain digital walk-through notes and a running record of plan changes
Meetings & Reporting
- Prepare for and attend the weekly Plans Meeting
- Sit in on the weekly Starts Meeting
- Keep the Plans Tracking Matrix, Plans Maintenance log, and Design Standards current
- Review window/exterior door takeoffs and truss packages
- Stay current with applicable building codes and industry trends
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Advanced proficiency AutoCAD
- Portfolio or references showing residential plan or light commercial drafting experience
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, engineered plans, and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional coordination (engineering, sales, field, vendors)
- Demonstrated ability to learn new software platforms quickly
Preferred
- Familiarity with electrical layout drawings
- Experience coordinating with structural engineers or truss manufacturers
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
About Higharc
We use the Higharc platform to build and manage our construction plans. Higharc is not widely used in the broader industry, so prior experience is not expected or required — we will train you. What we do need is someone who is genuinely excited about learning new technology and can adapt quickly. If you thrive with new tools, Higharc will become second nature.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 depending on experience
- Full benefits package
- Hybrid schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote
