New Heights Charter School is Massachusetts’ only public school that involves all grades (6-12) in the Early College approach. Nearly all our 11th and 12th graders are full-time students on a college campus with younger students earning college credits at the school. You will join a committed, creative team of educators who provide academic and social-emotional support to young people coming from high-need backgrounds ensuring they are college and career ready. We support our staff with a wide array of professional development opportunities and coaching. As a teacher or staff member, you will have the opportunity to join in the development and fine tuning of our curriculum, school policies, and enrichment activities. At New Heights, we respect and honor all community members, their diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences. Responsibilities
  • Assist students with their virtual learning in an in person setting;
  • Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers in the school as we transition to a hybrid setting;
  • Maintain a current knowledge of all Covid and school policies/procedures and follow them accordingly;
  • Role constantly changing to fit the needs at the time/stage of reopening which could include duties such as bathroom or hallway monitoring;
  • Supervising students during transitions, breakfast, lunch and afterschool;
  • Provides overall support to the student, based on the needs of the classroom and the students’ Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable;
  • Support students by providing one-on-one and small group intervention and support;
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies;
  • Recognizes when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seeks the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly;
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities;
  • Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues;
  • Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips;
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information especially as it relates to Covid;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned; Qualifications
    • Flexible and enjoys dealing with unpredictability;
    • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality;
    • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities is preferred but not required;
    • The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students;
    • Hard-working, energetic, and are willing to learn and adapt;
    • The ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies;
    • Experience teaching or working with middle and secondary school age children preferred;
    • Strong organizational skills, communication skills (particularly with children), and problem-solving skills;
    • Evidence of self-motivation, willingness to be a team player, and has a strong sense of personal responsibility;
    • Relentless commitment to the mission of educating urban students. Belief in and alignment with New Height’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable;

Salary : $30,000 - $38,500
