What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Broker - New Hampshire position at New Hampshire Business Sales?
About the Role
New Hampshire Business Sales (NHBS) is looking for a Broker Associate to help business owners navigate one of the most important transitions of their lives: selling the company they built. This is a relationship-driven, entrepreneurial role for someone who wants to build a business within a business, with mentorship and access to active opportunities to support you along the way.
What You'll Do
- Represent business owners through the sale of their company, from initial engagement to closing
- Serve as the intermediary between seller and buyer, keeping transactions on track and both sides moving toward a deal
- Build and manage your own network of referral sources, including attorneys, accountants, and other professionals who work with business owners
- Make cold calls and have real conversations that lead to new listings
- Evaluate businesses, identify the right type of buyer, and manage the sale process from start to finish
What We're Looking For
- General business knowledge across a range of areas; finance and accounting background is helpful
- Strong people skills. You'll be working closely with sellers during an emotional, personal process and with buyers who are putting their own money on the line
- Negotiating ability and comfort managing competing interests without reacting emotionally
- Discretion and sound judgment
- Resilience. Deals fall through. Prospects go quiet.
- The ability to handle setbacks, learn from them, and keep going is essential
- Patience. Selling a business takes time, and every deal moves at its own pace
- A genuine interest in solving problems and matching the right buyer to the right opportunity
- Comfort with cold outreach and the confidence to turn a cold call into a meaningful conversation
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required
- 10 years of business experience in sales, finance, operations, or business ownership
- Prior business ownership or P&L responsibility a plus
- Real estate license a plus, but not required
Compensation
This is a 100% commission-only position.
Broker Associates earn a split of the fee on each closed transaction.
Deals commonly take a year or more from initial engagement to close, so candidates should have the financial resources to support themselves while building their pipeline. Once established, earning potential exceeds $100,000 annually.
Why NHBS
- Mentorship from experienced broker
- Access to active opportunities, though deal flow can fluctuate
- No two deals are alike. Every business and every market presents something new to learn
- Real opportunity for professional growth as you build your book of business
