What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cooks position at New Gloucester Village Store?
We are reviving New Gloucester’s 135-year-old community hub and marketplace, much as we ran it 2008-2022, with house-made meals out of the cooler, a large retail market, and a kitchen and dining room serving three meals a day. Currently we are looking to add to our lunch and evening labor, though we are also interested in hearing from people that would be interested when we expand into mornings. Experience preferred, but more important is precision, cleanliness, orderliness, a desire to keep busy, a comfort multi-tasking, a comfort with being under pressure and working at a rapid pace for hours, and strong customer service skills.
We make wood-fired brick oven pizzas (and wood love to get someone with previous wood-fired pizza experience), salads, sandwiches, other entrees, and soon breakfast, which are served in our historic dining room and on the deck, though mostly to-go. In the downstairs kitchen, which is part of a retail market of meats, cheeses, produce, beverages, gourmet groceries, and basics, we create a large selection of Ready-Made meals, sides, salads, soups and such to be sold directly out of the cooler. Our aim is to make exceptional simple foods priced for mass consumption, and paramount is respect for the value of product consistency.
