Position Summary

The Activity Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing a comprehensive life enrichment program that supports the social, physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual well-being of residents. Programming spans all levels of care—Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care—and must meet regulatory standards, reflect resident preferences, and promote engagement and connection throughout the community.

Essential Functions

Program Development & Daily Operations

  • Plan and implement life enrichment programming seven days a week.
  • Develop a balanced calendar of events that includes physical, spiritual, cognitive, social, vocational, and emotional elements.
  • Create and distribute monthly calendars and newsletters for residents and families.
  • Welcome new residents and create individualized engagement through resident biographies.
  • Coordinate visits from schools, churches, pet therapy groups, entertainers, and other community partners.
  • Decorate common areas for seasonal and holiday events.
  • Manage inventory and supplies for activities and decor within budget.
  • Host or support programming across care levels and during staff absences.
  • Provide resident transportation services, as assigned.

Staff Engagement & Supervision

  • Train, supervise, and support life enrichment team members and volunteers.
  • Oversee weekend coverage, review daily task completion, and support quality programming.
  • Educate staff on making meaningful resident connections.
  • Lead departmental meetings and collaborate with community leadership.

Budget & Reporting

  • Manage department budget and monthly general ledger (G/L) accounts.
  • Maintain participation records, measure program effectiveness, and provide reports.
  • Track expenses and ensure resource usage aligns with community goals.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certification as required by state regulations for Activity Directors
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in senior living or healthcare life enrichment
  • Supervisory or management experience required.
  • Experience in dementia-specific programming and multi-level resident engagement
  • Must maintain required dementia-specific training per state requirements.
  • Demonstrated compassion and professionalism when working with seniors.
  • Effective communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • You must pass a background check and meet all health and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Practice and promote company policies, mission, and values.

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent service to residents, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Serve as a professional representative of the community during all activities and interactions.
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with residents and families.

Residents’ Rights

  • Ensure compliance with regulations protecting resident rights, dignity, privacy, and personal choice.

Training

  • Attend required in-service training sessions.
  • Support onboarding and continued education of activity team members and volunteers.

Other Duties

  • Follow and communicate all community policies and procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director

Working Conditions

  • May include evening, weekend, or holiday work for special events.
  • Frequent interaction with residents with varying cognitive and physical needs.
  • Work primarily within the community; may accompany residents on off-site activities.
  • May involve standing, lifting, and active participation in events and set-up.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Must assist residents with mobility and safely lead activities.
  • Clear vision, hearing, and speech to monitor and lead resident participation.

OSHA Category Classification

Category III – Tasks do not normally involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.50 - $13.50 per hour
