Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Log Truck Operator to join our medium scale Tree Company. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating a large log truck to transport timber and forestry products across various routes. Your expertise in truck driving, cargo handling, and adherence to safety regulations will ensure timely deliveries and maintain the highest standards of safety and efficiency. New England Property Maintenance is one of the leading tree removal companies in the Hudson Valley. Your primary job locations will be in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties.
Duties
- Safely operate log truck to transport logs and forestry products over designated routes.
- Load and unload cargo efficiently using manual handling techniques and equipment, ensuring proper securing of loads according to safety standards.
- Navigate using GPS systems, plan routes effectively, and adapt to changing conditions while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) guidelines.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections, monitor vehicle performance during trips, and perform basic maintenance checks to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, route information, and delivery documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and team members to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues promptly.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, particularly with log trucks.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazard materials handling, and safety procedures.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems and route planning.
- Ability to load & unload freight manually.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; experience with manual transmission trucks is a plus.
- Physical ability to handle manual tasks associated with cargo handling and vehicle inspections.
