New England Machine Tools (NEMTUSA) designs custom high‑precision CNC grinding machines and automation systems for medical device, aerospace, and tooling manufacturers. We’re hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to own complex machine designs from concept through customer delivery in a hands‑on, small‑team environment and see those designs running in real customer production.


You’ll design multi‑level assemblies for custom CNC grinding machines, including bases, enclosures, axis and workhead/custom fixture assemblies, dresser systems, and automation/robotic loader & inspection structures that form the main mechanical skeleton of each machine.


Responsibilities:

  • Designing complex assemblies in Autodesk Inventor for CNC grinders and automation cells
  • Creating drawings/BOMs and supporting machine builds through the shop
  • Work directly with customers during sales and delivery to translate requirements
  • Coordinating with purchasing, suppliers, manufacturing, and build teams
  • Own multi‑level machine assemblies (base, enclosures, axes, workhead/custom fixtures, dresser, electrical enclosures, HMI enclosures, and automation/robotic loader structures) from concept through release to manufacturing


Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–7 years designing complex mechanical assemblies, preferably industrial machines/CNC/automation
  • Expert-level Inventor skills (assemblies, drawings, BOM management).
  • Experience with industrial machines, CNC equipment, automation systems, or similar capital equipment.
  • Comfort working closely with shop, service, and sales teams in a fast‑moving small‑company environment.
  • Full‑time, on‑site in Bristol, CT. Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.
