Position Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is responsible for development and implementation of treatment plans, exercise program training for students and staff, and data collection as appropriate for the physical therapist.
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of a Physical Therapist and based upon assessments, they provide instructions for use of appropriate adaptive equipment, classroom, and residential accommodations. Order/assist in design of equipment and train staff in use, care, and safety during team meetings.
- Complete treatment plans for students once assessed and recommended for PT services.
- Complete exercise programs to address student IEP goals using department-specific software and ACE.
- Supervise case managers in curriculum implementation through direct observation and modeling, primarily in the gym setting but as needed in classrooms.
- Collaborate regularly with APE, PT, OT, and other related disciplines to maintain communication and team approach regarding students and their motor programming.
- Provide ongoing supervision of departmental programs in contexts including gym sessions and classroom activities.
- Upon request, attend classroom meetings or team meetings for an assigned caseload to review student progress, present updated information, or programs, and/or to address modifications needed to existing programs.
- Complete all required NECC training classes in a timely fashion, including annual training in OSHA, CPR, and 51-A.
Education/Experience
- Associates degree required in a physical therapy accredited CAPTE program (Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education).
- State Licensure approval
- Three years' related experience in pediatrics is preferred.
