Salary Range:  $20-28/hr
Hours: 20 hours/week; 2:30PM - 6:30PM

Position Purpose:
Ensure that all customers are greeted in a timely and friendly fashion.  Responsible for registering patients, medical records, procedure scheduling, medical clearance paperwork, maintaining electronic medical records and ensuring all documents are accurately stored.  Will perform or assist with clerical/secretarial functions within the office.

As a representative of NEBSC, all comments attitudes, actions and behaviors have a direct effect on the Facility’s image and perceptions of quality service.  Interaction with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional.  This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork which is congruent with Facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.
Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.

Essential Position Responsibilities:
Job Knowledge
  1. Admits patients in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner according to procedures.
  2. Gathers accurate and complete financial, insurance, and personal demographic information.
  3. Clearly communicates individual patient financial responsibility professionally and courteously to all patients prior to the scheduled service date.
  4. Obtains insurance verification and authorization for patient services in a timely manner from insurers for us to provide needed care.
  5. Collects for self-pay portions of bills.
  6. Conducts an interview to obtain biographical information.
  7. Demonstrates the appropriate use of the admissions computer systems.
  8. General understanding of the laws, both State and Federal that affect our ability to collect balances due from patients, insurers, and/or their agents.
  9. Collects medical clearance paperwork, working with pre-admission testing and anesthesia.
  10. Maintains both paper charts and electronic records.
  11. Assumes responsibility for pristine environment.
  12. Responsible for the overall appearance of the lobby/waiting area.
  13. Maintains work area in an organized and neat manner, and that patient admission/intake is handled in a private area.
  14. Acts as a resource center for facility.
Service Commitment
  1. Efficiently and accurately supports the admission process.
  2. Prepare all forms completely and accurately prior to the arrival of all admissions.
  3. Route all admission forms to the appropriate departments.
  4. Keep a record of all denied admissions and the reason for the denial.
  5. Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  6. Demonstrates competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.
  7. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.
  8. Complete all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by policy.
  9. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and facility.
  10. Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.
  11. Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies, prepares requisition forms, and orders supplies and equipment.
  12. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Attendance
  1. Follows established surgery center policies and procedures regarding attendance.
  2. Maintains attendance according to guidelines and policy established by facility.
  3. Adheres to tardiness policy.
  4. Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness in accordance with established departmental procedures.
Machines/Equipment Used: All office machines.
Environmental Conditions: Indoors in climate-controlled environment.  Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood/body fluids which may carry infection to infectious disease and to chemical hazards.  Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.

Physical Requirements: Ability to answer telephone.  Ability to sit for long periods of time. Hand/finger agility necessary to typing and computer use. Good hearing, clear/articulate speech, and visual acuity.
