The SBA Business Development Officer / Relationship Manager is responsible for originating, developing, and managing SBA 7(a) loan relationships for a community-focused financial institution. This role combines business development with relationship management, serving as a trusted advisor to small business owners while driving SBA loan production. The position manages the full SBA 7(a) lifecycle—from prospecting and referral development through structuring, closing coordination, and ongoing portfolio oversight. Success in this role requires strong relationship skills, working knowledge of SBA programs, and close collaboration with internal credit, underwriting, and closing teams to ensure compliant, well-structured transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate SBA 7(a) loans through direct prospecting and referral sources
- Build and maintain relationships with small business clients and centers of influence
- Structure SBA loan requests and coordinate with internal teams through closing
- Manage an active SBA portfolio and ensure strong client experience post-close
- Maintain compliance with SBA guidelines and bank policies
Qualifications
- Experience in SBA lending or commercial banking
- Strong relationship management and business development skills
- Knowledge of SBA 7(a) programs and processes preferred
- Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through skills
