We are seeking a dynamic, relationship driven Executive Director to lead our organization into its next chapter. This position is ideal for an experienced nonprofit executive whose greatest strengths are fundraising, donor cultivation, community engagement, and strategic leadership. We strongly prefer a candidate based in the Santa Barbara area who has knowledge of and connections within the local nonprofit community.
Full-time, $150,000 per year.
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the organization and reports directly to the Board of Directors. While overseeing the organization's overall operations, the Executive Director's highest priority is ensuring the long-term financial strength of New Directions through major gift fundraising, foundation relations, corporate partnerships, planned giving, and community outreach.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, annual giving, mail appeals, foundation grants, planned giving, sponsorships, and special events.
- Cultivate and steward meaningful relationships with individual donors, major donors, foundations, corporations, community leaders, and service organizations.
- Serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the organization throughout the community.
- Partner closely with the Board of Directors to strengthen philanthropy and expand the organization's network of supporters.
- Develop and execute long term fundraising strategies that increase contributed revenue and ensure financial sustainability.
- Identify new funding opportunities and build strategic partnerships.
- Provide strategic leadership while preserving and advancing the organization's mission and vision.
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and organizational performance.
- Provide leadership and support to an experienced, dedicated staff, fostering a collaborative and mission focused culture.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, Regional Center requirements, contracts, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Five or more years of senior nonprofit leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts and leading comprehensive fundraising programs.
- Proven ability to build lasting relationships with donors, foundations, and community leaders.
- Strong public speaking, communication, and presentation skills.
- Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors.
- Sound financial management and budgeting experience.
- Passion for improving the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Experience in nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, human services, or disability services is highly desirable.
- Preference for candidates based in the Santa Barbara area with familiarity and connections within the local nonprofit community.
