Prevention Educator-Youth Leadership

Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to support the Teen Advisory Council (TAC), prevention programming, and grant requirements within the agency. The Prevention Educator serves as the face of the organization when providing educational programming in schools, on college campuses, and throughout the community, on an individual or group basis, to youth and adults. This position is responsible for leading youth leadership development, youth-led prevention initiatives, and college prevention programming that empower young people to become leaders, advocates, and changemakers throughout Knox County. The Prevention Educator supports the implementation of grant-funded initiatives, including the Rape Prevention Education (RPE) Grant, through youth engagement, social marketing, outreach, and prevention education. The Prevention Educator may be required to assist in other areas based on the needs of the agency. Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Youth Leadership Duties & Responsibilities

• Co-lead New Directions' youth leadership initiatives by recruiting, mentoring, and developing youth leaders throughout Knox County.
• Recruit, facilitate, and support the Teen Advisory Council (TAC), including meetings, leadership development, and youth-led prevention initiatives.
• Develop and implement youth leadership curriculum, volunteer opportunities, presentations, and community engagement activities.
• Coordinate youth leadership events, conferences, recognition activities, and special initiatives, including EmpowerUS and Color for a Cause.
• Mentor youth in advocacy, healthy relationships, violence prevention, strategic planning, and social marketing.
• Support youth data collection, peer environmental scans, program evaluation, and maintain accurate program records and reports.
• Build partnerships with local schools and the community to expand student leadership opportunities and outreach.
• Ensure all youth programming is evidence-informed, engaging, and incorporates youth voice in prevention efforts.

College Prevention Programming

• Serve as New Directions' primary prevention contact for local colleges and universities.
• Develop, coordinate, and facilitate campus prevention programming on healthy relationships, consent, bystander intervention, and violence prevention.
• Implement campus-based prevention initiatives, including OneLove workshops, orientation programming, and residence hall education.
• Plan and lead campus outreach, awareness campaigns, tabling events, and student engagement activities.
• Build and maintain partnerships with student organizations, Title IX Coordinators, and other campus partners.
• Participate in campus wellness initiatives and coordinate awareness activities for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
• Coordinate prevention programming at Kenyon College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Additional Duties

• Deliver evidence-informed prevention education in schools, colleges, and community settings.
• Represent New Directions through community outreach, presentations, awareness campaigns, health fairs, and collaborative partnerships.
• Implement grant-funded prevention initiatives and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements, deliverables, and deadlines.
• Maintain accurate program records, participation data, statistics, evaluations, and required reports.
• Participate in agency events, staff meetings, community coalitions, trainings, conferences, and ongoing professional development.
• Maintain or actively pursue Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist (OCPSA/OCPS) certification and stay current on evidence-informed prevention practices.
• Support agency operations by assisting with office coverage as needed, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and performing other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Completion of a 40-hour ODVN or OAESV advocacy training within 6 months of hire. Maintain 30 hours of continuing education every two years. Successful completion of state and federal background checks.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in education, public health, social work, psychology, sociology, human development, or a related field. Experience presenting to youth in schools and/or adults in businesses is preferred. Experience working with youth leadership, prevention education, student organizations, or community engagement preferred. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
