Commercial Loan Underwriter

Role: Analyzing, underwriting, and monitoring commercial credit relationships to support sound lending decisions and maintain portfolio quality. Evaluates borrower financial performance, cash flow, collateral, industry conditions, and repayment capacity to assess credit risk and provide well-supported recommendations. Performs periodic and annual reviews of existing credit relationships, ensuring ongoing compliance with lending policies, regulatory requirements, and the institution's risk management objectives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

E - 45% - Analyze commercial loan requests, renewals, and modifications on behalf of client credit unions by evaluating financial statements, cash flow, collateral, guarantor support, industry conditions, and repayment capacity. Prepare comprehensive credit analyses and underwriting recommendations that support prudent lending decisions, maintain portfolio quality that align with client credit union policies, lending standards, and risk tolerances. Recommend appropriate credit structures, loan terms, collateral requirements, and covenants.

E - 35% - Portfolio monitoring and periodic credit reviews, including annual reviews, for commercial lending relationships serviced through the CUSO. Assess borrower financial performance, covenant compliance, collateral adequacy, risk rating accuracy, and overall creditworthiness to identify emerging risks and provide recommendations that support sound portfolio management and credit union objectives.

E - 15% - Maintain accurate and complete credit documentation, support internal and external audits and examinations, and promote consistent adherence to sound credit administration and risk management practices across the CUSO's client relationships.

N - 5% - Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

1. To adhere to the shared values of the organization.

2. To ensure the commercial loans are in accordance with established credit union policy and federal regulations.

3. To develop recommendations for cost efficiencies and enhancements to products, pricing, and processes by monitoring trends in operations.

4. To maintain a professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for members, co-workers, and clients.

5. To troubleshoot and resolve member, client, and internal inquiries in a timely, friendly and accurate manner.

6. To maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.

7. To comply with requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act, NCUA Rules and Regulations, and any other regulations pertaining to the job as described and credit union operations.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education: A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or 5 years of experience.

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally stand and walk (including up and down stairs), use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The employee may work remotely, in accordance with the remote policy. Number of days per week determined by department manager.

Pay: $27.72 - $41.57 per hour
