JOB TITLE: Health Safety Monitor (HSM)

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Chief Operating Officer

JOB SUMMARY: The Health Safety Monitor (HSM) is responsible for providing continuous, real-time monitoring of the facility’s environment through centralized video surveillance to ensure the safety of clients, staff, and visitors. This role involves observing facility activity, identifying safety risks, responding to emergencies, and coordinating communication with staff and emergency services. The HSM supports life safety efforts and maintains a secure and structured environment within the treatment setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all clients.
  • Monitor live camera feeds of hallways, common areas, entrances/exits, exterior perimeter, and designated safety observation areas.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of facility activity and identify potential safety risks.
  • Observe for fire, smoke, environmental hazards, and obstructed egress pathways.
  • Initiate emergency response procedures, including contacting 911 when necessary.
  • Notify appropriate staff and leadership of emergencies or safety concerns.
  • Monitor evacuation processes and provide real-time updates during emergencies.
  • Identify and report suspicious behavior, safety concerns, and policy violations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including shift logs, incident reports, and observation notes.
  • Monitor entrances and exits for unauthorized access or safety risks.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, leadership, and emergency responders.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information and surveillance activities.
  • Remain compliant with all state and federal regulations.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Complete all assigned training.
  • Complete all duties as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong observational and situational awareness skills.
  • Working knowledge of surveillance systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with a diverse client population.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in crisis situations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in a behavioral health, healthcare, or security setting preferred.
  • Experience in a residential/inpatient treatment setting preferred.
  • CPR Certification (must be obtained within 3 months of employment).
