What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Coordinator position at New Covenant Church?
OVERVIEW
A reliable and detail-oriented individual responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and safety of the church campus to provide a welcoming, hygienic, and well-maintained environment for worship, events, and activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Empty trash, replace liners, and ensure proper disposal of recyclable materials.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as needed.
- Clean and restock supplies (toilet paper, soap, paper towels, sanitizers, tissues).
- Maintain and sanitize high-touch surfaces (doorknobs, railings, light switches).
- Set up and take down chairs, tables, and equipment for services and events as assigned.
- Report maintenance issues (lighting, plumbing, HVAC, repairs) to appropriate staff and follow up.
- Replenish and organize supply closets; maintain inventory of cleaning products.
- Ensure security and safety during and after events; lock doors as required.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and use proper PPE; maintain a clean and organized workspace.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Prior custodial experience preferred, church or community organization experience a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and time-management skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety protocols; willingness to learn.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, crouch, and stand for extended periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Flexible schedule for event coverage, including weekends or evenings as needed.
- Positive, respectful communication and a supportive attitude toward church staff and volunteers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Location: Church campus (sanctuary, classrooms, gym, fellowship hall, offices, outdoor areas).
- Full-time; typical shifts may include evenings and weekends for events.
- Background check will be required.
