What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student (Peer) Research Assistant Internship, Library position at New College of Florida?
Peer research assistants will offer entry reference help during evenings, weekends, and other times when faculty librarians are not available, and may offer services in students' native language.Conducting entry-level reference interviews. Assisting student patrons with research queries and strategies and citation management tools. Assisting faculty librarians with preparation for class instruction sessions. Shadowing faculty librarians during workshops and presentations. Working with faculty librarians to develop a presentation for an internship symposium/capstone.
Assess needs in an academic and professional setting and tailor reference interviews to the individual. Ability to revise expectations and goals for outcomes as patrons refine research questions.
Ability to inform and encourage peers and patrons in the pursuit of academically honest and ethical research practices, evaluate sources of information, and identify significant gaps in best practice
Contribute to improving reference interview processes and shared library service tools.
Evaluate information sources for credibility and guide patrons in ethical, academically honest research practices.
Demonstrate clear, professional oral and written communication during reference interviews and when assisting patrons.
