Purpose Statement
The job of Bus Driver-Non CDL was established for the purpose/s of providing support within the N.E.W. B.O.C.E.S. student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.
This is a part time position.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This job reports to Transportation Supervisor
BUS AIDE
Essential Functions
Administers first aid and prescription medication (under the direction of a health care professional) for the purpose of providing emergency and necessary care in compliance with established guidelines.
• Applies proper physical restraint techniques when necessary for the purpose of protecting the students and staff.
- Assists bus driver with pre-trip safety inspection and cleaning the bus for the purpose of ensuring bus is maintained in a safe and sanitary operating condition.
•Assists special education students and other passengers (e.g. keeping students comfortable, warm,toileting when fueling enroute,changing diapers, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and comfortable trip and a safe loading and unloading from busesduring normal transport and emergency situations.
•Assists with conducting monthly emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complyingwith mandated requirements.
•Attends transportation meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to performjob functions.
•Completes a walk-through (e.g. clothing, bags, prescriptions, etc.) for the purpose of checking for students or articles left behind at the end of each trip.
• Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and well being.Maintains knowledge of current bus route for the purpose of taking over if the regular bus driver is sick or the substitute driver needsdirections.
•Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring thesafe transportation of all passengers.
•Possesses knowledge of individual student needs, their behavior plans, medical concerns and transportation plans for the purpose
of ensuring students needs are met and students are maintained in a safe environment.
•Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing writtenreference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
•Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose ofcommunicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
•Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring thesafety and well-being of students.
Other Functions
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License and health driving report from the last 3-5 years
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Must pass a criminal background check
