What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Instructor - Modern & Afro Dance position at New Beginnings Center for the Performing Arts, LLC?
New Beginnings Center for the Performing Arts is a community-focused performing arts academy in New Rochelle, NY (Westchester County), serving students ages 3 through adult. We are hiring two experienced, part-time Dance Instructors to teach our teen and adult students. You may apply for one or both positions.
POSITION 1: MODERN DANCE INSTRUCTOR (HORTON & GRAHAM)
Schedule: Thursday evenings, 7:30–9:30 PM
What you'll do:
• Teach technique-based modern classes rooted in Horton and Graham, from beginner to advanced levels
• Plan progressive lessons that build strength, alignment, musicality, and artistry
• Choreograph pieces for recitals, showcases, and performances
• Give students individual feedback and track their progress
What we're looking for:
• Professional training in Horton and Graham technique, with the ability to teach beginner through advanced levels
• Teaching experience with teens and/or adults
• Choreography experience (preferred)
POSITION 2: AFRO DANCE INSTRUCTOR (WEST AFRICAN, CARIBBEAN & AFROBEATS)
Schedule: Monday evenings, 6:30–8:30 PM
What you'll do:
• Teach energetic, culturally grounded classes in West African, Caribbean, and Afrobeats dance
• Share the history, rhythm, and cultural context behind each style
• Choreograph pieces for recitals, showcases, and community performances
• Work with live or recorded drumming and music as appropriate
What we're looking for:
• Strong training and teaching experience in West African, Caribbean, and/or Afrobeats dance
• Experience teaching teens and/or adults
• Performance and choreography experience (preferred)
• Knowledge of traditional rhythms and drumming (a plus)
