Job Title: Adult Diploma Program TeacherReports to: Manager of Adult Education or designeeQualifications: 1.Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.2.Massachusetts Teacher Certification (ABE Licensure preferred)3.Experience in teaching high school level material to adults of diverse academic ability.4.Sensitive to the needs of multi-cultural, diverse adult learners.5.Ability to adapt teaching style and techniques to the needs of adult learners.6.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, ZOOM, Google Classroom/Documents and the integration of technology in the ABE classroom.7.Certified to administer required ABE assessments (willing to certify).8.Familiar with College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.9.Experience in maintaining individual records and reports.Performance Responsibilities: 1.Conducts interview sessions that include initial academic assessment, transcript evaluation, and life skills assessment.2.Establishes a credit analysis plan for each student to earn the required units for graduation.3.Develops a program of study that meets and accommodates student assessment outcomes, individual needs, interests, abilities and goals.4.Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and plans instruction effectively.5.Makes learning goals clear to students, and communicates high expectations and encourages students to transfer learning to their roles as family members, workers and citizens6.Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to increase student learning and confidence.7.Plans meaningful assignments for volunteer tutors. Incorporates them into the instructional setting to assist learners most in need of support.8.Assist learners with the development of a portfolio which includes initial/post assessment information, evidence of skills attainment in the areas of reading, writing, grammar, mathematics and life skills. 9.Guides participants with the selection of supplemental required courses.10.Follows all guidelines relating to life experience methodologies.11.Updates instructional materials.12.Prepares final portfolio for submission to the Principal of New Bedford High School, Evening Extension for approval.13.Prepares required credit acquisition request forms.14.Maintains and prepares accurate and complete records in a timely manner.15.Participates in Common Planning and works with the Curriculum Facilitator to align curriculum with College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.16.Works closely with Advisors to ensure student perseverance and positive student participation. 17.Actively plans with the technology teacher to devise lessons which integrate technology into the curriculum.18.Works closely with administrators, advisors, volunteer-tutors and colleagues to maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages students to raise issues and take risks.19.Attends required meetings, participates in staff/program development activities and is receptive to changing program requirements.
