Position Summary:
The General Foreman is a skilled and proactive leader responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing daily operations within the fabrication area. This role ensures production goals are met while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The General Foreman supervises and develops department supervisors, drives performance improvements, and ensures effective communication between plant management and frontline operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead, coordinate, and monitor all activities of fabrication department supervisors to ensure efficient, productive, and safe operations.
- Train, coach, mentor, and evaluate supervisors, including conducting annual performance reviews and participating in disciplinary procedures as needed.
- Foster a collaborative and motivated work environment, encouraging trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Analyze production issues and implement solutions to improve processes, reduce downtime, and meet production targets.
- Maintain high standards of quality and safety, ensuring compliance with plant procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the communication link between plant management and fabrication supervisors, attending and contributing to daily supervisory meetings.
- Conduct regular walkthroughs of the fabrication area to ensure proper workflow, reinforce expectations, and boost employee morale.
- Accurately record operational, personnel, and production data; use data to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Lead or assist with special projects in the fabrication area to support operational goals and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a beef processing plant.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
- Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the U.S.
- High school diploma or GED required; college education preferred.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse workforce and upper management.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be physically capable of climbing, balancing, walking, and stooping as required.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work 8–10 hours per day in cold or hot conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise, wet/slippery floors, and moving machinery.
- Fast-paced environment requires attention to detail and adherence to strict safety standards.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
