What are the responsibilities and job description for the LPN- Specialty Clinic position at Nevada Regional Medical Center?

Pay: Base Wage starting at $18; increased based on experience

Incentive Eligible Position: Yes


Education and Training: Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing.


Licensure: Current Licensed Practical Nurse license in the State of Missouri or Graduate Practical Nurse eligible for examination with valid permit.


Certification: Class C Basic Life Support (CPR) within 90 days of employment and renewed biannually.


Experience: One year of general, acute Medical/Surgical Nursing or Skilled Nursing preferred.

Abilities:

  • Providing the basic bedside care like dressing wounds, changing bandages, inserting catheters, and giving injections.
  • Taking the patient's vital signs such as respiration, temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate.
  • Enter the data related to the record of patients in computer systems.
  • Interview patients and examine their medical history.
  • Inform the patients about the doctor’s order or test results via mail or call
  • Assist registered nurses and other superior nurses to develop best care plan for the patients
  • Help the patients to understand documentation or paperwork
  • Talk to the patients about their present problems, allergies, medications and keep an eye on their medical records
  • Accomplish scheduled immunizations, visual acuity testing, nebulizer treatments, and regulate TB tests
  • Talk to the patients and their families about their treatment plan, tests, and diagnoses
  • Starting, monitoring, or discontinuing the intravenous catheters or the intravenous fluids.
  • Taking verbal orders from the MD (Doctor of Medicine)
  • Aid in phlebotomy - analyze patients, look over the requisition form for requested tests, and set equipment, patient and puncture site.
  • Assists in IV set-ups: validate solution to be regulated, analyzing infusion site, keep track of IV function and patient comfort, and terminate IV at an appropriate time, as ordered by MD.
  • Undertake various office responsibilities: answer calls and reply to messages and execute triage within the scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and precise way.
  • Help to coordinate patient referrals and take part in the training and orientation of new employees.
  • Call pharmacies for ordering prescriptions and store supplies in the rooms of patients

 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Nurse Manager, Supervisor, Registered Nurse, and Clinical Manager.

 

Job Summary: LPNs perform basic nursing functions like changing bandages and wound dressings. They comfort patients and make sure basic needs such as food and fluid intake are in order. Licensed practical nurses may also administer medications in some settings depending on institutional and state standard

 

Qualifications: Must adhere to NRMC appearance and attire policy

Category- II- Job classifications in which employees have only occasional occupational exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious materials, which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.

 

 

Occupational Safety Health Hazards “Right to Know”

 

In providing quality health care for patients, numerous hazardous materials are received, stored, used and disposed of in the Medical Center's work stations. Most of these materials require specific precautions in utilization and storage so as to protect personnel in the facility.

 

To ensure that all departments and each employee of the Medical Center are aware of and are in compliance with the Hazard Communication Policy, certain training and information sources are provided.

 

Training is provided to detect the presence of hazardous chemicals and the physical and health hazards in the work area. Safety procedures as to how employees may protect themselves from these hazards and the policies and procedures of the employer's Hazardous Communication Program are also provided in this training.

 

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each hazardous chemical will be made available to each employee. These Yellow notebooks, with red lettering, will be found in each department and Nursing Stations throughout the Medical Center. The information in the notebook should contain any hazardous chemical used and/or located in that department.

 

It shall be the employee's responsibility to follow safe work practices and procedures, using MSDS as a guide for instructions.

 

HIPAA - Protected Health Information (PHI) Designation

 

Level 1 - Job classification in which employee has direct access to PHI. Will receive job specific training concerning confidentiality of PHI.
