Overview:
NPHF is seeking an individual who will coordinate and promote the activities of the Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board. This legislatively established board is made up of community leaders, law enforcement, healthcare and treatment providers, family and peer advocates, a legislative representative, and others who are interested in identifying and planning for the behavioral health needs within the region. The focus of activities is based in Carson City and the counties of Douglas, Churchill, Lyon, and Storey. Collaboration in statewide efforts may also occur. Minimally, the coordinator offers technical assistance to the board through the provision of strategic planning guidance, regional training and educational presentations, data analysis, assistance with the authoring of an annual report, and legislative bill draft development. The coordinator plans and hosts regular board meetings (online) in collaboration with the chair. Recurrent travel within the Northern Region and statewide is required.
Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing technical and administrative support to the Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board. The duties of the Board are outlined in NRS 433.4295.
- Support the further development and implementation of Nevada’s Crisis Response System (CRS) as it relates to 988 crisis response and behavioral health needs in the Northern Region.
- Conduct research, coordination, and outreach to support the state level goals of Substance Use Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Services (SUPTRS) programming.
- Conduct research, coordination, and outreach to expand the implementation of evidence-based strategies to address mental illness and co-occurring conditions specific to state level goals of Mental Health Block Grant (MHBG).

The ideal candidate is passionate about improving behavioral health in rural Nevada, possesses excellent communication skills, approaches complex challenges with openness, creativity, and resilience, and demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge
- Behavioral health resources in Nevada, especially those within Carson City and the counties of Douglas, Churchill, Lyon, and Storey.
- Legislative process in Nevada.
- Open meeting law in Nevada (NRS 241).
Skills and Abilities
- Strong listening and writing skills for reports, meeting minutes, and outreach or educational materials.
- Facilitation and community building to promote effective working relationships with state, county, and community stakeholders who may have competing or conflicting priorities.
- Strategic planning, problem solving, and organization.
- Verbal proficiency when delivering presentations (in person and online), testimony at legislative and commission meetings, and public comments.
- Complying with and planning for budgetary constraints.
- Initiative-taking and capability to deliver stated objectives in a timely manner.
- Driving in rural areas of Nevada.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, psychology, sociology, social work, education, public policy, public administration, or closely related field; AND two (2) years of professional experience in a public health, education, the non-profit sector, or a community-based organization. NPHF will consider six (6) years of professional experience in public health, education, the non-profit sector, or community-based organization providing program coordination/support if the applicant does not have a degree or has a degree in different area of focus.
