The Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records is seeking a Librarian 4 in the Carson City area. The Access Services and Outreach Manager ensures that the public can discover, access, and use the State Library’s collections and services. This position oversees Access Services operations and leads the library’s outreach and public engagement efforts. Working closely with the Technical Services Manager, this position helps coordinate the full range of library services, ensuring that public-facing services and behind-the-scenes operations function together effectively.

The Manager supervises Access Services staff and maintains high-quality service by planning and coordinating daily operations, supporting frontline work, and directly assisting the public. Responsibilities include reference and research assistance, circulation services, collection development and materials purchasing, and the collection, analysis, and reporting of operational statistics to support assessment, planning, and service improvement. This position also plans and implements library programs, events, and exhibits; coordinates tours; and leads the creation of agency communications such as handouts, brochures, newsletters, and social media content. Access Services focuses on how users interact with the library’s collections and services, while outreach and public communications help ensure that people can find, understand, and engage with what the library offers. Through programs, exhibits, and media engagement, this role highlights the library’s value, showcases unique and rare materials, and strengthens connections between the public and NSLAPR.

The Nevada State Library, Archives & Public Records is seeking a Reference Librarian in the Carson City area to provide professional reference services, support public access to collections, and contribute to the library’s online and digital initiatives. Working as part of the Access Services team and reporting to the Access Services Manager, this position serves as the library’s primary professional reference lead, providing advanced research assistance using NSLAPR collections, including government documents, digital resources, maps, and other specialized materials. Minimum Degree Requirement

Graduation from high school or equivalent education.

Current students or recent graduates from undergraduate or graduate studies in library science, archives management, museum studies, public history, or related fields. No archives related work experience is required.

Internship Description

The Guy Rocha Internship is a 10-week paid internship with the Nevada State Archives. This opportunity is open to Nevada residents who are current students or recent graduates from undergraduate or graduate studies in library science, archives management, museum studies, public history, or related fields.

The selected intern will help conduct a survey of multiple collections housed at the Nevada State Archives, including an extensive map collection. This internship is designed to provide a focused introduction to professional archival practice and large-scale archival collections. The person in this position will learn to assess the condition of archival materials, identify conservation concerns, and create standardized descriptive metadata and inventories based on professional standards.

The person in this position must be capable of long periods of standing while working with materials, climbing ladders, and bending or reaching for materials stored at various heights. Some physical stamina is required to safely lift and move boxes that typically range from 20 to 50 pounds. The intern must be proficient enough in basic computer skills to record the information they gather during the survey.

This position requires State and Federal fingerprint-based background checks as a condition of appointment and as condition of continuing employment.
