Adaptive Skills Trainer

We are seeking compassionate and motivated Adaptive Skills Training Specialists to provide direct support to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This role focuses on teaching practical life skills, supporting independence, and implementing individualized strategies based on participant assessments and goals.

Staff will work directly with participants in 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 ratios, supporting the development of adaptive, social, daily living, and executive functioning skills in community-based or program settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct adaptive skills training to participants based on individualized goals and assessments.
• Maintain staff-to-participant ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 depending on participant support needs.
• Support the development of:
• Executive functioning skills, including planning, organization, and time management
• Social and communication skills
• Emotional regulation and coping strategies
• Independent living and daily living skills
• Community integration and vocational readiness
• Implement evidence-based teaching strategies and behavior supports as directed by supervisors or behavior specialists.
• Collect session data and complete progress notes in accordance with program and regulatory requirements.
• Follow and implement Behavior Intervention Plans and safety procedures when applicable.
• Attend team meetings, training, and supervision sessions as required.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, clinicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Maintain professional and ethical standards in accordance with California service guidelines for individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Support participants in maintaining dignity, autonomy, independence, and community inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or a related field:
• Psychology
• Social Work
• Education
• Human Development
• Behavioral Sciences
• CPR and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOJ/FBI background clearance through Live Scan.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
• Ability to complete required training in mandated reporting, abuse prevention, and participant safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
• Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) or behavior support strategies.
• Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, executive functioning supports, or adaptive skill development.
• Experience in special education, community-based support, social services, or therapeutic programs.
• Strong documentation, observation, and data collection skills.
• Familiarity with IPP goals, Regional Centers, or individualized service planning preferred.
