Behavioral Health Technician

Reports to: Regional Center Manager/Regional Manager

Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Direct Reports: None

Hours: Must be able to work 8-hour shifts, Monday-Friday that may fall between hours of 7AM-7PM

Position Summary

Under both clinical and operational supervision, the Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing patient care utilizing behavioral health care services such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and esketamine (as applicable) for the treatment of chronic depression and other mental health conditions. Additionally, the Behavioral Health Technician performs a variety of supportive clinical and administrative duties while ensuring care continuity between patients, providers, and management.

Essential Functions And Job Responsibilities

  • Administers TMS or esketamine therapy, as applicable, in accordance with all provider-established clinical guidelines and protocols including but not limited to: preparing the TMS medical device, as applicable; reviewing all medication/treatment administration information with each patient (subject to provider preference); monitoring all aspects of TMS of esketamine treatment to ensure patient wellbeing and clinical accuracy; and taking patient vitals before esketamine treatment, 40 mins after administration, and prior to patient release.
  • Provides and collects Spravato® Informed Consent forms before induction of any esketamine treatments and submits REMS Monitoring forms following each esketamine treatment.
  • Reviews and administers psychiatric rating scales (i.e., PHQ-9, QIDS-SR16) to patients, as applicable, to benchmark treatment progress and ensure continuity of care.
  • Identifies and resolves any issues related to patient discomfort during treatment using FDA pre-approved guidance from device manufacturer(s) or applicable medication protocols and in accordance with all clinical provider directives.
  • Delivers exceptional patient care at all times by demonstrating empathy, developing trust, utilizing reflecting listening, and providing support to a vulnerable patient population.
  • Records all treatment session notes and documents in EHR, collaborating with other team members and/or providers as needed.
  • Escalates any patient concerns and/or incidents appropriately to management and/or providers.
  • Schedules patient consultations and visits (both over the phone and in person), as well as conducts patient check-out procedures including collecting applicable co-payments and relaying discharge instructions.
  • Maintains understanding of general insurance and billing procedures to support related workflows and requests, as required.
  • Accounts for and delivers monthly device variance reports to management for appropriate record reconciliation and billing purposes.
  • Anticipates and supports all provider and clinical needs including monitoring equipment statuses and medication and supply quantities for effective use and availability.
  • Prepares used devices for proper disposal via third party vendor collection and disposes of unused medication in accordance with all established guidelines and protocols.
  • Answers general phone inquiries, performs patient follow-up, and completes additional administrative duties including but not limited to handling medical records and patient charting.
  • Completes and maintains all training and other certifications, as required by the position and organization.
  • Adheres to and upholds all applicable federal and state compliance requirements, the Greenbrook TMS Code of Conduct, the Greenbrook TMS HR Manual, policies and procedures, and applicable healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse laws.
  • Understands, complies with, and enforces all Greenbrook TMS policies, procedures, codes of conduct, and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least one year of experience working in a patient care or mental health office setting or operating room setting. High School Diploma, Associate’s Degree, Medical Assistant or other clinical certification may be considered with additional years of appliable work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; Proficiency in EHR systems or strong technical aptitude to learn Athena and SalesForce.
  • Knowledge of marketplace insurance payers and medical necessity guidelines highly recommended but not required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (renewal provided by organization as needed).
  • Authorization to work in the United States without requiring authorization sponsorship by the company for this position now or in the future.
  • A satisfactory background check inclusive of driving records, criminal records, employment verification, education, and Social Security verification.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

  • Located in a fast-paced, clinical office environment with a noise level that is generally moderate.
  • Regular use of clinical equipment (including TMS medical devices, etc.).
  • Regular use of standard office equipment (including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.)
  • Regular periods of sitting, standing, bending, walking, seeing, talking, and listening.
  • Full range of body motion including complete manual and finger dexterity, as well as effective hand-eye coordination.
  • Adequate visual acuity including ability to read information.
  • Regular requirement to reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Regular requirement to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license, as needed.
