Controls Engineer

Neuromech Systems
Livonia, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/30/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/27/2026

About Neuromech Systems:

Neuromech Systems is a Michigan-based automation integrator serving manufacturers across the region. Our team handles the full lifecycle of a project — from electrical schematics and controls architecture through panel design, PLC and robot programming, and on-site commissioning. We build automated production cells that our customers can rely on from day one, and we stand behind our work well after startup.

What We're Looking For:

We're hiring a Controls Engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving and isn't afraid of a new challenge. You should be comfortable moving between electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems, and you should have the persistence to work through a tricky commissioning issue until it's actually fixed — not just patched.

You'll be based out of our Livonia facility, but this isn't a desk-bound role — expect travel to customer plant locations for installs and commissioning as project needs dictate. Part of the job is also representing Neuromech well in front of customers: listening to what they need, explaining trade-offs clearly, and proposing solutions they can trust.

This is a field-based role, you'll be on-site at client plant locations for installs and commissioning, with your assignment location shifting based on active projects. Part of the job is also representing Neuromech well in front of customers: listening to what they need, explaining trade-offs clearly, and proposing solutions they can trust.

What You'll Do:

  • Build out PLC control logic and support ongoing debugging and troubleshooting as programs evolve.
  • Support installation and startup of automated cells — verifying wiring against schematics, checking I/O tags, and confirming robot and PLC behavior on the floor.
  • Help commission new automation cells end to end, including networking and electrical checkout.
  • Tune and revise existing PLC and robot programs to squeeze out better cycle times and throughput.
  • Pitch in on the production floor as needed to keep projects moving.

What You Bring:

  • A diploma or degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering (or a comparable technical background).
  • Comfort reading and verifying electrical and pneumatic prints.
  • A working understanding of PLC theory, with hands-on experience in Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms.
  • Experience programming ladder logic and HMIs for machine cells, tooling, robotics, or conveyor systems.
  • Some exposure to industrial networking (DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP) and the troubleshooting that comes with it.
  • A collaborative mindset, balanced with the initiative to run with things independently.
  • A willingness to adapt when a project throws you a curveball.
  • Willingness to work on-site at client plant locations for the duration of project assignments.

Nice to Have:

  • Around 5 years in controls engineering or commissioning.
  • GM GCCS/GCCH certification.
  • EPlan P8 experience for electrical CAD.
  • A track record of informally leading or mentoring on a project team.
  • A customer-first attitude under pressure.

Additional Information:

This role requires regular travel to customer sites and may include work on manufacturing floors, warehouses, automotive plants, and industrial facilities. Candidates must be comfortable following customer safety requirements, wearing required PPE, and supporting commissioning activities during production or off-shift windows when needed.

Neuromech Systems is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.
