Duties
- Conduct thorough neurological assessments, including history-taking, physical examinations, and vital signs monitoring to evaluate patient conditions accurately.
- Manage and coordinate patient care plans for individuals with neurological disorders, utilizing advanced clinical knowledge and evidence-based practices.
- Administer treatments such as Botulinum toxin injections for spasticity or dystonia, ensuring precise technique and adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform diagnostic procedures including lumbar punctures (spinal taps), sonography, and other imaging techniques to assist in accurate diagnosis.
- Collaborate closely with neurologists, primary care providers, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment strategies.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner, maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients and their families about neurological conditions, treatment options, medication administration, and lifestyle modifications to promote optimal health outcomes.
Requirements
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with certification in neurology or related specialty preferred; must meet all state licensing requirements.
- Demonstrated experience working with neurological patients in settings such as hospitals, clinics, or outpatient practices; critical care or ICU experience highly valued.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with medical documentation standards like ICD-10/ICD-9 coding.
- Strong clinical skills including physical examinations, medical terminology expertise, injection administration (including Botox), IV infusion, venipuncture, and sterile technique.
- Knowledge of neurodiagnostic procedures such as EEG interpretation or sonography; experience with neuroimaging is advantageous.
- Ability to perform complex assessments involving physiology knowledge, case management, triage protocols, and acute pain management strategies.
- Excellent communication skills for client education and interdisciplinary collaboration; experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics preferred.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in areas such as telehealth practices, infection control, hospice & palliative medicine, or behavioral health.
