Role Description The Legal Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Lafayette, LA, supporting attorneys in delivering efficient, high-quality legal services. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing, formatting, and organizing legal documents and correspondence, maintaining case files, and managing calendars, deadlines, and court dates. The Legal Assistant will assist with filing and service of pleadings, coordinating discovery, and updating case management systems. The role also involves communicating with clients, courts, and opposing counsel, arranging meetings and travel, and providing general administrative support to ensure smooth office operations. The individual in this role will work closely with attorneys to help track case progress and support trial preparation as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in legal work and experience supporting attorneys in a litigation-focused environment
- Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, proofreading, and organizing pleadings, motions, and correspondence
- Excellent Communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and other stakeholders
- Demonstrated Administrative Assistance capabilities, such as scheduling, file management, data entry, and office coordination
- High attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to handle multiple priorities
- Comfort with legal practice management software, document management systems, and standard office software (e.g., MS Office)
- Associate’s degree, paralegal or legal assistant certification, or equivalent work experience in a law firm or legal department
- Experience in civil or commercial litigation and familiarity with Louisiana state and federal court procedures is preferred
