Neumann University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Residence Life.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students for Residence Life & Community Standards, the Assistant Director of Residence Life plays a pivotal role in coordinating the community development and housing operations of a 750-1,000 bed residential program all rooted in Neumann University’s Catholic Franciscan tradition. As a key member of the Residence Life Team, the Assistant Director is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating intentional learning and housing opportunities in the community to meet the developmental needs of Neumann University’s residential students.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Residence Life
- Provide leadership for all housing facilities & operations initiatives for university-owned student housing. Provide vision and leadership for housing occupancy management, including but not limited to planning, reporting, management, communication & marketing. Indirectly manage and oversee housing assignments, billing, room changes/selection process, and marketing efforts to ensure desired occupancy levels.
- Provide leadership and coordination of the residential life programming model. Oversee assessment of various residential life programs and provide recommendations for changes.
- Develop and implement long-range strategic planning for Residential Life.

- Supervise 3 graduate hall directors and indirectly supervise 20 resident assistants.
- Coordinate all hall opening/closing processes in conjunction with departmental leadership, hall staff, and campus constituents.
Housing Operations
- Provide oversight and leadership on major housing operations processes including Health & Safety inspections, break coverage operations, desk operations and related manuals.
- Assists in supervising the housing assignment/agreement processes and provides statistical analyses of occupancy.
- Assist in overseeing all occupancy management functions for the department including future space projections, bed space allocation, budget projections related to space utilization and regular occupancy updates.
- Supervises the communication of assignments and other services and processes information to all constituents; ensures a high level of customer services.
- Supervise the graduate assistant for housing operations and indirectly supervise 30 desk assistants.
- Oversee the housing technology platform and serve as the primary liaison with external provider (e.g. eRezLife).
- Ensure that the office procedures, record keeping and reporting are in compliance with all applicable laws including but not limited to FERPA, the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, and Title IX.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the Residence Life and Community Standards leadership team.
- Provide leadership for graduate assistant and student departmental staff. Create a supportive environment that promotes the professional/personal development of staff members.
- Prepare written reports, presentations, campus communications, marketing strategies, follow-through, and outreach.
- Represent the department on university committees and special projects as appointed by the Assistant Dean of Students.
- Collaborate with University stakeholders to support the recruitment and retention of students to Neumann University.
- Maintain working knowledge of legislation, legal precedent, and best practices as they relate to residence life and housing.
- Demonstrate an appreciation for and understanding of the Catholic Franciscan tradition and values of Neumann University. As a visible agent of Neumann University, the highest standards of conduct, attitude, appearance, and confidentiality are expected at all times.
- Provide timely responses to students and campus stakeholders.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- This position is required to handle confidential information appropriately and is bound by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This position is also a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act as well as has reporting responsibilities under Title IX for incidents they are made aware of through their role. In addition to reporting, training is required for these designations.
- This role requires some night and weekend work to support the campus community.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters’s degree from an accredited higher education institution.
- 3-5 years of progressive professional experience in student residence life, housing management, or related areas.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective campus partnerships.
- Specialized knowledge of crisis response, student disciplinary, and sexual misconduct issues on college campuses
- Knowledge of developmental issues of both traditional and non-traditional students, commuter students, and resident student populations.
- Clear evidence of the ability to collaborate with various constituencies, including, but not limited to, students, staff, faculty, and the broader community.
- Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
- Candidates must possess an understanding of, appreciation for, and congruence with the Catholic Franciscan mission of the University.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with housing software programs such as eRezLife
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and Ellucian systems
