At Network for Hope (NFH), the Tissue Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate review of tissue donor records and obtaining and communicating key donor information. This role participates in the post-recovery process for organ culture and serology reporting and verification. The Tissue QA Specialist conducts thorough quality assurance reviews, verifying specified information elements to ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards and regulatory requirements while supporting optimal tissue donation and transplantation outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance Review

  • Independently review all tissue donor records post-tissue recovery within required timeframes.
  • Receive, verify, and upload tissue serologies within required timeframes post tissue recovery.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate closure of the electronic tissue donor record through final QA review, approval, and case locking.
  • Document and communicate review findings and required corrections to the appropriate staff members and leaders.
  • Ensure required tissue clinical data and information is documented and uploaded within the electronic donor record and verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Request and/or obtain autopsy information from coroners, medical examiners, pathologists, donor hospitals, and state vital statistics departments, ensuring information received is accurate and complete.
  • Obtain, review, verify, and upload tissue processor cultures and serologies into the electronic tissue donor record.
  • Coordinate the timely resolution of tissue processor pending list items.

Culture and Serology Reporting

  • Obtain and review post-recovery organ cultures and serologies to accurately identify positive results.
  • Report positive post-recovery organ cultures and serologies to identified safety contacts within regulatory timeframes.
  • Verify post-recovery reporting of positive organ cultures and serologies to ensure regulatory compliance.

Collaboration

  • Assist, as needed, in the education, training, and competency of staff responsible for documentation related to tissue donor records.
  • Provide recommendations, as requested, and participate in improvement activities designed to support and enhance optimal organ donation and transplantation outcomes.
  • Assist, as needed, in the preparation for the release of donor records to ensure the timely and secure release of donor information in accordance with legal requirements and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of post-secondary education in a healthcare-related field is required. Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years' experience in a healthcare setting is required. One year's experience in formalized quality assurance reviews is preferred. One year organ and/or tissue industry experience is preferred.
