Job Summary :
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, supervises the daily activities of a vehicle maintenance facility. Responsible for the daily supervision of vehicle maintenance and related activities and for ensuring timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance inspections, service, and repair of transit buses, non-revenue vehicles, and equipment.
Responsibilities :
- Supervise and evaluate mechanics, technicians, utility service workers, and inventory control personnel on various shifts.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance and safe repair of the fleet at multiple divisions.
- Ensure ongoing maintenance of the full fleet of buses and non-revenue support vehicles.
- Assist mechanics and technicians with complex maintenance problems.
- Prepare recurring reports, including end-of-shift vehicle status, revenue vehicle inspections, work orders, and other maintenance documents.
- Transport parts, materials, and equipment between divisions.
- Monitor quality of work through spot checks and supervise fueling and cleaning operations.
- Interface with other supervisors and communications staff.
- Provide information and recommendations to the Fleet Superintendent and Maintenance Manager.
- Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Strong knowledge of management techniques, transit fleet operations, equipment, and maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations.
- Skill in maintenance record-keeping, repair procedures, and parts inventory control.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, with the ability to communicate tactfully in various situations.
- Ability to prepare reports and conduct personnel evaluations.
- Strong mechanical diagnostic and repair skills for heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements and work collaboratively with labor unions.
- Capacity to plan, organize, and evaluate maintenance operations.
- Skill in writing clear reports, memos, and using fleet management software.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and terminal inspection requirements (BIT).
- Experience with software-based preventive maintenance tracking programs.
Qualifications :
- Education: Graduation from an accredited junior or community college AND/OR heavy-duty equipment technical training.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of vehicle maintenance experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience: At least one year of supervisory experience or two years as a mechanic lead.
- Hands-on experience: Minimum of two years working in a garage.
Salary : $56 - $65
