Summary
NETSCo is seeking an experienced Sr. Electrical Engineer with a marine background to join its team of professionals. NETSCo is a growing Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm that provides complete ship, tug, and barge designs of all types; from concept through construction. The company is a leader in marine environmental solutions, such as electrification of vessels, ballast water treatment systems, hybrid technologies, and the use of alternative fuels, LNG, CNG, etc.
The successful candidate will oversee all the electrical system aspects of ship construction or ship repair and conversion projects managed by NETSCo. Operating independently, with minimal supervision, this role also involves leading and managing project teams, including other engineers, junior engineers, and designers. It requires a comprehensive understanding of marine electrical standards, practical experience with shipboard systems, and the ability to oversee projects from initial concept through construction.
NETSCo has offices in Cleveland, Ohio, and Tampa, Florida. This role can be based in either location. The ideal candidate will be able to work either independently or in close collaboration with a team of seasoned professionals, including naval architects, marine engineers, electrical engineers, and marine designers, depending on the needs of individual projects.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and/or a relevant engineering field of study.
- At least eight to ten (8 - 10) years of relevant work experience: Vessel Owner; shipyard; classification society; and engineering consulting.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License strongly desired.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage assigned engineering projects, including overseeing engineering and drafting personnel, budgets, schedules, and technical progress.
- Support the Engineering Manager in preparing project estimates, task lists, budgets, and schedules.
- Prepare and review drawings, specifications, complex analyses, and calculations completed by engineers, junior engineers, and drafting staff to ensure conformance with NETSCo, Client, and regulatory standards (including familiarity with Class Rules such as ABS, RINA, DNV, USCG, and standards like IEEE, IEC).
- Interact with Clients on a peer level to discuss technical and project-related matters.
- Analyze emerging technologies and conduct competitive analyses to provide strategic insights.
- Execute advanced marine electrical analyses such as hybrid technology, diesel-electric systems, and automation solutions.
- Oversee the electrical system aspects of NETSCo ship construction and ship repair projects, including the preparation and review of recommendations.
- Lead the design and specification of shipboard electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, lighting, automation, and communication systems.
- Review and approve vendor drawings and technical documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
