Director of Implementation Engineering

The Director of Technical Engineering is responsible for day-to-day delivery execution, engineering workload management, and delivery discipline across the Professional Services organization.

This role focuses on bringing structure, predictability, and accountability to engineering delivery while partnering closely with PMO leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and at sustainable utilization.

This is a delivery-first leadership role with clear ownership of engineering assignments, delivery commitments, and utilization.

Primary Responsibilities

Delivery Execution & Accountability

• Own engineering delivery execution across all Professional Services workstreams, including onboarding, migrations, security projects, and custom implementations
• Ensure engineers meet committed timelines and proactively communicate delivery risks to Project Managers
• Address missed deadlines and delivery issues by correcting workload balance, communication breakdowns, or execution gaps
• Establish clear expectations for delivery readiness, task completion, and handoffs
  
  

Engineering Workload & Assignment Management

• Maintain final ownership of engineering assignments and day-to-day prioritization
• Balance workloads across engineers and teams to align capacity with active projects
• Partner with PMs to ensure engineering commitments align with approved project plans
• Surface delivery risks early and recommend corrective actions
  
  

Utilization & Capacity Oversight

• Own engineering utilization targets and monitor workload sustainability
• Track capacity at a high level and identify short-term resourcing gaps
• Partner with Engineering Team Leads to actively balance workloads in support of utilization targets
• Provide input into hiring needs and timing based on delivery demand
• Escalate capacity constraints to PMO leadership with data-backed recommendations
  
  

Scope Awareness & Sales Partnership

• Partner with PMO, CSM, and Sales to validate delivery assumptions for scoped work
• Identify scope expansion during execution and communicate the impact to timelines and effort
• Support change discussions with factual delivery input (hours, complexity, dependencies)
  
  

Engineering Standards & Consistency

• Drive consistency in how Professional Services engineering work is delivered
• Reduce reliance on ad hoc approaches by encouraging repeatable delivery patterns
• Support improvements in documentation, handoffs, and onboarding efficiency
  
  

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and develop the Engineering Team Leads responsible for technical execution
• Set expectations for communication, accountability, and delivery discipline
• Provide performance oversight and development guidance for the Engineering Team Leads
• Participate in interviewing and onboarding engineers
• Coach team members toward delivery maturity and role clarity
  
  

Required Experience & Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in engineering delivery or technical services
• Experience leading engineers in a Professional Services or implementation environment
• Strong understanding of delivery execution, workload balancing, and utilization
• Comfortable working in mixed fixed-fee and T&M delivery models
• Proven ability to partner with PMs and Sales on delivery expectations
• Experience leading team leads or senior engineers preferred
