Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented IT Technical Writer I to support Stanford University’s Business Affairs – IT department. In this role, you will create, edit, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with university standards. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a solid understanding of technical content, and experience producing accessible web and print materials.
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position running through December 31, 2026, with potential extension into 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and organize technical materials such as manuals, instructions, appendices, and user guides.
- Ensure all documentation meets established standards for clarity, structure, style, accessibility, and terminology.
- Design, format, and prepare publications for printing and digital distribution.
- Develop and maintain content that adheres to Stanford’s IT and university-wide guidelines.
- Maintain records, document versions, and revision history.
- Manage and resolve HelpSU tickets related to documentation requests.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather, verify, and refine content.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent writing, editing, and grammar skills.
- Strong understanding of technical concepts and ability to translate them into user-friendly content.
- Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Experience using content management systems, preferably Drupal.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Adobe Creative tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
