Position Overview
The Data Center Platform Engineering Group (DPEG) is seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer 2 (3rd Shift) to provide hands-on engineering support for complex server, GPU, and data center platforms. This role requires an individual who can function as both an engineer and technician, troubleshooting hardware, firmware, operating system, and infrastructure-related issues in a fast-paced lab and data center environment.
The engineer will monitor systems during overnight operations, respond to incidents, investigate and resolve issues through a ticketing system, and support the installation, maintenance, and debugging of next-generation computing platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience with data center systems, Linux environments, GPU-based platforms, and system-level debugging methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor lab and data center environments during 3rd shift operations.
- Manage, prioritize, and resolve incidents through the JIRA ticketing system.
- Troubleshoot and debug hardware, firmware, operating system, and platform-level issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and drive issues to resolution.
- Install, replace, configure, and validate server and data center hardware components.
- Investigate GPU, CPU, BIOS, BMC, networking, storage, and system reliability issues.
- Monitor and respond to data center events including:
- Power interruptions
- Network outages
- Cooling and liquid cooling issues
- Hardware failures
- Execute Linux-based diagnostic scripts, analyze logs, and document findings.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams, OEMs, ODMs, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
- Maintain detailed documentation and provide clear communication through ticket updates.
- Follow operational priorities established by engineering leadership.
- Contribute to process improvements and continuous operational excellence initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a Data Center, Lab, Server Validation, Systems Engineering, or Platform Engineering environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Hands-on experience with server platforms containing CPUs and GPUs.
- Experience working with ticketing systems such as JIRA.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems, command-line tools, and log analysis.
- Knowledge of hardware and firmware debugging including:
- BMC
- BIOS
- GPU platforms
- System-level diagnostics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently during overnight operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with system-level debug methodologies.
- Knowledge of server architecture, storage, networking, and data center infrastructure.
- Scripting experience using Bash, Python, or similar automation tools.
- Experience working with OEM, ODM, and vendor engineering teams.
- Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC), AI, or GPU-based systems.
- Experience using hardware validation and debugging equipment.
