Controls Technician

Shift: 1st shift 7 am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Must be open to weekend work, overtime, and to a flexible scheduled when needed

Assignment Length: 6-month contract with potential extension.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Controls Technician III to join our maintenance team at our San Leandro Milk Plant. In this role, you will install, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize industrial control systems and automation equipment that support safe and efficient manufacturing operations. You will work with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, industrial networks, and electrical controls while partnering closely with maintenance and operations teams to minimize downtime and improve plant performance. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on automation professional with a strong background in industrial manufacturing and process controls.

Duties:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems supporting production equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control system issues to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial control systems and automation equipment.
  • Calibrate and maintain field instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Work with Allen-Bradley PLCs using Studio 5000 and RSLogix 5000 software.
  • Support SCADA systems including Ignition and FactoryTalk View SE/ME for monitoring and process visualization.
  • Troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, and Profinet.
  • Utilize diagnostic and programming tools such as RSLinx, Wireshark, HART communicators, and laptop-based software.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives, automation upgrades, and process optimization projects.
  • Document maintenance activities, system modifications, and equipment repairs accurately.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and established plant safety procedures while working on electrical and automation equipment.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial automation and control systems.
  • Experience working with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, HMIs, and SCADA platforms.
  • Strong understanding of electrical controls, instrumentation, industrial automation, and process control systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting motor control systems, VFDs, sensors, transmitters, and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, and Profinet.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Experience with calibration of pressure, temperature, flow, and level instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems such as Fiix or similar maintenance management software.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools including RSLinx, Wireshark, HART communicators, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
  • Manufacturing experience in food & beverage, dairy, or other industrial processing environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of LOTO, Arc Flash, OSHA safety standards, and industrial electrical safety practices is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an industrial manufacturing environment with varying temperatures.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
