Purpose of Position

The Leave of Absence Specialist is the subject matter expert for managing and overseeing all aspects of employee leave requests, including medical, personal, and family-related absences in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This role provides best-in-class service to employees throughout their entire leave journey. The Leave of Absence Specialist helps ensure that leave procedures are executed smoothly and that employees receive the appropriate support during their time away from work.

Tasks And Responsibilities

• Interprets and applies federal and state leave laws (FMLA, ADA, PWFA, etc.), company policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Manages leave process, including eligibility, determination, paperwork, and communication.
• Coordinates with TPA administrators on requests and ensures timely processing of leave and benefits.
• Advises employees and managers on leave policies, procedures, and options.
• Responsible for analyzing and resolving complex leave of absence issues.
• Facilitates the interactive process for accommodation requests.
• Keeps accurate and complete records of leave requests and related documentation.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations regarding the protection of sensitive information.
• Provides effective and responsive communication with internal and external partners to ensure collaborative relationships.
• Works with HR partners, payroll, and other departments to ensure smooth administration.
• Stays informed on topics related to leave and accommodations
• Keeps up-to-date with changes in leave laws and regulations.
• Researches and analyzes relevant legislation, case law, and industry trends.

Bachelor's in Human Resources or related field

• Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
• Knowledge of Leave of Absence and Worker's Compensation management and relevant state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to analyze and balance leave of absence needs with laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Can draw logical conclusions and make educated guesses based on available data.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive employee information with discretion and confidentiality.
• Proficient in navigating various technology platforms and software applications to manage leave cases and enhance operational efficiency effectively.
• Completion of specialized certification or training on leave administration, preferred.
• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, preferred.
