Universal Assistant Store Manager — Poconos Location

Training Location: New York area preferred; qualified candidates from the Philadelphia area will also be considered.
Permanent Work Location: Poconos area, Pennsylvania.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Universal Assistant Manager to support the Store Manager in leading daily operations, developing employees, and achieving store sales and productivity goals. This role supports both perishable and nonperishable departments, with a focus on inventory management, merchandising, customer service, staffing, and operational standards. The candidate must be willing to relocate to the Poconos area between mid-January and February 2027. The company will assist with eligible relocation and moving expenses.

Training and Relocation

Training will preferably take place at NetCost Market locations in the New York area, including 65th Street, Hewlett, and other stores. This training will provide experience across different departments and store operations before relocation to the Poconos.

Qualified candidates from the Philadelphia area who meet the position requirements and are willing to relocate will also be considered. 

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Store Manager in overseeing daily store and fulfillment operations.
• Help lead perishable and nonperishable departments, maintaining product quality, availability, rotation, and merchandising standards.
• Review sales, inventory, labor, and productivity reports and help develop action plans to improve performance.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and developing employees across departments.
• Coordinate daily assignments and employee schedules to meet business needs and labor cost goals.
• Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, conduct performance reviews for direct reports, and address policy violations consistently.
• Maintain a welcoming shopping environment and resolve customer concerns professionally.
• Oversee ordering, receiving, and inventory procedures to control expenses and reduce product losses.
• Ensure compliance with cash handling, reconciliation, and company asset protection procedures.
• Maintain store cleanliness, food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards; promptly address hazards and report accidents.
• Monitor equipment condition and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Support store promotions, merchandising initiatives, and company sales and service targets.
• Complete required reports, forms, and operational documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide hands-on coverage across departments as needed to support efficient store operations.
• Follow company policies and applicable health, safety, and labor requirements.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of management experience.
• Willingness to relocate to the Poconos area between mid-January and February 2027.
• Availability to complete training at assigned NetCost Market locations before relocation.
• Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret instructions, solve problems, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous under pressure.
• Fluency in English.
• Basic math skills and the ability to operate a cash register or POS system.
• Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including shifts of up to 10 hours.
• Availability to work 50–60 hours per week.
• Valid forklift certification or willingness to obtain it within 3 months of employment.
• ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain it within 3 months of employment.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

• Management experience in grocery retail or a supermarket environment.
• Experience overseeing both perishable and nonperishable departments.
• Experience with inventory control, merchandising, employee scheduling, and labor management.
• Knowledge of food service operations and food safety practices.
