Title: R&D Laboratory Technician (Sample Management)
Location: Zionsville, IN 46077
100% onsite
Duration: 12 months contract
Weekly Schedule: 40 hours; Mon - Fri 8:00am-5:00pm
Role Summary
Under the supervision of scientists and technicians, the contractor will support the Microbial Repository.
The contractor is expected to work closely with Microbial Repository staff, completing assigned tasks to maintain effective operations.
Responsibilities
- Be the customer facing contact for strain requisitions and pickups.
- Interact with customer to ensure needs are met.
- Deliver strain requests when necessary.
- Perform routine and non-routine tasks, including aseptic handling, streak plating, cleaning and organizing lab areas, manual liquid transfers, operating automated liquid handlers, and storing and retrieving samples from freezers and shakers.
- Handle sample management and freezer cleanouts, including management in the LIMS system.
- Order laboratory supplies as needed to support Microbial Repository operations.
- When workload allows, provide support to other laboratories, gaining cross-functional experience.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with Microbial Repository staff, scientists, and technicians.
- Work to understand customer needs and identify workflow improvements that can better meet customer needs.
- Operate independently to meet customer needs, run MALDI Biotyper identification of contaminants, build IR Biotyper database.
Experience Requirements
- The role requires candidates with a few years of experience, preferably in biorepository operations and/or LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
- Prior experience in microbiology, biotechnology, biology, or a related field is required.
- Experience in aseptic techniques is mandatory.
Technical Skills & Background
- Hands-on experience in: Biology, GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), Aseptic techniques, LIMS systems, Laboratory automation
- Experience with biorepositories and LIMS systems is essential.
- Experience with laboratory automation is considered a plus.
