Job Title: Lab Technician / Pathology Lab Support Specialist

Duration: 12 months contract (potential to extend)

Role Summary
The Lab Technician / Pathology Lab Support Specialist supports routine medical and pathology laboratory operations to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role focuses on laboratory preparation, documentation, inventory control, and operational support under the supervision of senior laboratory staff. Training will be provided.
Core Responsibilities
Support study setup and laboratory preparation activities.
Operate specialized printers for scientific supplies, including tubes, cassettes, and vials.
Manage metadata and spreadsheets related to printing and labeling tasks.
Follow established timelines for necropsy-related supply preparation.
Assist with inventory management and archiving of microscopic slides and tissue blocks.
Complete required paperwork, including chain-of-custody documentation.
Perform daily checks of laboratory supplies and equipment.
Work under the guidance of senior staff while following established workflows and procedures.
Laboratory Duties (General)
Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean laboratory equipment.
Analyze and record test data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with specifications.
Prepare reports using charts, graphs, and written narratives.
Obtain and handle specimens for laboratory analysis.
Assist with basic laboratory processes as required by the pathology team.
Environment & Safety
Laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals; use of PPE (gloves, safety glasses, lab coats) is required.
Respirator use is not required but optional (N95 or air-purified respirators available).
Must be comfortable working in a pathology lab where animal necropsies occur (no direct involvement, but exposure to euthanized animals and tissues).
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment and follow safety protocols.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable asking questions and escalating issues when needed.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and requests.
Basic computer proficiency, including spreadsheets and data entry.
Willingness to learn laboratory workflows and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)
Background in animal science, veterinary technology, or a related field.
Experience in pathology, histology, or necropsy (preferred but not required).
Familiarity with GLP documentation practices.
Previous laboratory experience or internship in a similar environment.
Histology certification (HT or ASCP) is a plus but not required.
