The Quality Assurance Engineer supports and oversees the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for materials, components, and finished products in a heavy manufacturing environment. This role is well suited for a quality professional with experience in large industrial equipment, CNC-machined parts, heavy metal fabrication, or pressure vessel manufacturing.
The ideal candidate brings a hands-on understanding of manufacturing quality and can work cross-functionally with engineering, production, assembly, shipping, and suppliers to ensure products meet customer, industry, and internal requirements. When quality issues arise, this individual will analyze root causes, recommend corrective actions, and help implement long-term solutions that improve performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review customer purchase orders, specifications, and engineering design documents to determine quality and compliance requirements
- Develop, implement, and maintain methods and procedures for inspection, testing, and evaluation of materials and finished products
- Participate in customer audits, third-party audits, supplier evaluations, and internal quality reviews
- Support Material Review Board activities and assist in the disposition of nonconforming materials or products
- Review and approve supplier quality procedures and certified material test reports for compliance with applicable ASME/ANSI requirements
- Analyze quality reports, returned products, and manufacturing concerns, then recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Interface with shop floor personnel and inspectors involved in measuring, testing, machining, welding, NDE, and related manufacturing processes
- Attend cross-functional meetings with sales, manufacturing, assembly, and shipping to address product quality concerns and recommend solutions
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to product quality, supplier quality, process control, and overall operational performance
- Complete additional company-related projects and assignments as needed
- Follow all company policies, procedures, work instructions, environmental requirements, and safety standards
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience
- 3 years of relevant quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Background in heavy mechanical industry, large industrial equipment, CNC machining, heavy metal parts, or pressure vessel manufacturing strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, NDE, materials, testing, and welding
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, and technical documentation
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience supporting audits, supplier quality activities, and corrective action processes is preferred
