Mechanical System Engineer - LNG

1 Year Contract
Summary
The CSU Mechanical System Engineer will be assigned systems on the project for which they will have full responsibility for commissioning. This will require coordinating with electrical, instrumentation, and control systems disciplines within the CSU organization to complete all required testing from component level through integrated operation with the rest of the facility. Testing to be performed will generally include, but not be limited to: flushing piping systems, performing vessel closeout inspections, running in driven equipment (including vibration testing) such as pumps, compressors, fans, etc., checkout and testing of prime movers such as diesels and turbines, inspection and setting of safety valves, testing heat exchangers, performing IST’s, logic testing of system functions (e.g., interlocks, trips and permissives), and generally supporting other disciplines (electrical, instrumentation, controls and plant operations) to complete commissioning tests.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and guidance for pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and testing activities.
- Verify the integrity and performance of mechanical systems during installation, commissioning, and startup to ensure reliability and availability.
- Lead and promote ES&H initiatives while ensuring compliance with company, local, and national safety requirements.
- Execute testing per STCPs, SWPPs, project procedures, and supplier requirements while maintaining complete documentation and test records.
- Coordinate activities between engineering, construction, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and specialty groups.
- Provide technical direction to commissioning personnel, technicians, and craft workers while supporting safe and efficient execution.
- Prepare FCRs, NCRs, and DRs to document as-built conditions and resolve deficiencies.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee commissioning, startup, maintenance, and safety-related activities.
- Coordinate supplier Technical Assistants (TAs), ensuring efficient use of time, budget compliance, and successful equipment commissioning.
- Ensure proper storage of permanent plant materials and perform mechanical system testing per code and supplier requirements.
- Participate in construction and client turnover walkdowns, managing punch list items through completion.
- Maintain commissioning and startup spare inventories, prepare material requisitions, and monitor subcontractor compliance with project specifications and schedules.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4 years of related experience; OR
- 8 years of equivalent industry experience in lieu of a degree.
Required
- Experience commissioning and starting up large rotating equipment, including centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, multistage pumps, diesel engines, and gas turbines.
- Heavy industrial construction experience in a supervisory role, preferably within a lump-sum turnkey environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, engineering principles, startup processes, operations, maintenance, and testing.
- Knowledge of applicable industry regulations, standards, and commissioning practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills with the ability to supervise craft personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and project software such as Aconex and SetRoute.
- Understanding of project workflows including design, estimating, fabrication, construction coordination, and administration.
- Experience with mechanical and piping systems in oil and gas processing facilities preferred.
- Familiarity with company work processes and applications including SetRoute, Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, and Navisworks preferred.
- Ability to lead teams, manage change, and work flexible schedules, including nights or split shifts as required.
- Physically capable of performing field inspections, climbing ladders/scaffolding, working at heights or in confined spaces, lifting as required, and utilizing assigned PPE.
