What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Engineer, Navy Missile Defense | C++, DOORS, V&V | No Layoffs in Nearly 20 Years position at Nerd Up Staffing?
U.S. Navy AEGIS Weapon System Integration, Testing, and Systems Engineering
The company doing this work is small and specialized. It has partnered with this customer since 2007 and supported Aegis since 2015. Its 36 engineers on the program work as part of the customer’s team, not as outside contractors kept at arm’s length. Across the East Coast, it hasn’t had a layoff in nearly two decades, and it keeps its engineers. If you’ve had a program cancelled out from under you, this is a different situation.
The Work
This is hands-on systems engineering. You’ll trace problems from test events through the requirements and into the code, document anomalies and deficiencies, and see them through to resolution. You’ll do it alongside engineers who have supported this system for years, with a manager who mentors rather than micromanages.
Day to day, you’ll:
- Break down Navy requirements and manage them in DOORS, with full traceability
- Read and debug C to investigate problem reports and find root cause
- Plan and carry out verification and validation
- Work problem reports through evaluation and closure
- Contribute to test plans and carry out integration and test
- Take part in environmental test and evaluation (ET&E)
- Work with test engineers on automated analyses across levels 1 through 5 testing
- Take part in classified lab testing and combat system initialization
- Present technical findings clearly, in writing and in person, to engineers and the Navy
Coming From Space, Aviation, or Another Defense Program?
Prior Aegis experience is welcome but not required. If you’ve written requirements, built test procedures, run test readiness reviews, or traced verification to test in DOORS on a complex aerospace or defense system, that experience carries over. You will need hands-on C , DOORS, and V&V.
Who This Is For
Mid to senior engineers who want to stay hands-on. This is an individual contributor role, not a program management or people management position.
