We are seeking a Workday Functional Financial Consultant with deep expertise in the Workday Financial Data Model (FDM) to support financial transformation initiatives within the higher education sector. This role will design, configure, and enhance Workday Financials to meet the unique operational, budgeting, grants, and compliance requirements of colleges and universities.
Key Responsibilities
FDM Design & Governance
- Lead design and maintenance of the Workday Financial Data Model including worktags, hierarchies, and financial organizational structures.
- Build and optimize structures for academic units, funds, grants, programs, and capital projects.
- Establish governance standards to ensure FDM consistency across schools, colleges, and administrative units.
- Configure Workday to support fund accounting, grants management, cost centers, academic units, and auxiliary/enterprise departmental needs.
- Support tuition revenue classification, endowment and gift fund structures, and capital project accounting.
- Ensure configuration aligns with NACUBO, GASB, and federal compliance requirements.
- Lead or participate in Workday Financials implementations, expansions, and optimization initiatives.
- Perform requirements gathering, design, configuration, functional documentation, and testing.
- Participate in FDM mapping and legacy data conversion for chart of accounts redesign.
- Collaborate with finance, budget, academic departments, research administration, and IT.
- Provide higher-ed–specific Workday best practices for financial operations, grants, and budgeting.
- Align Workday configuration with campus budgeting models, research processes, and auxiliary operations.
- Support end users with Workday issues related to FDM, business processes, and reporting.
- Improve financial workflows, optimize FDM usage, and enhance cross-campus reporting.
- Support audits and provide configuration insight for internal controls and compliance.
- 3–7 years of Workday Financials functional experience.
- Hands-on expertise with the Workday Financial Data Model, including worktags and hierarchy design.
- Experience in higher education finance, fund accounting, research administration, or budgeting.
- Knowledge of NACUBO accounting principles and GASB financial reporting.
- Workday Financials Certification.
- Experience working with public or private colleges, universities, or higher-ed systems.
- Familiarity with grants management, endowments, cost allocation, and research compliance.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with academic and administrative stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation and governance skills.
