Overview
A manufacturing facility is looking for a dedicated full-time (on-site) Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will be based out of our Waterbury, CT office. This position requires advanced Microsoft Excel, SAP experience preferred, strong time management, analytics, communication, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, at least 3 years' experience working in a manufacturing environment and great interpersonal skills.
General Ledger:
· Prepare and enter journal entries for accruals, allocations, inventory, prepaids, reclassifications while ensuring that all transactions are recorded accurately, with attention to detail.
· Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Bank Reconciliations:
· Daily reconciliation of all bank accounts ensuring that the company's financial records match its bank balances, preventing discrepancies that could lead to financial issues.
· Clear cashed checks in the general ledger daily.
Accounts Payable:
· Receiving, coding, verifying, and entering of all supplier invoices, expense reports, and credit card expenses timely and accurately.
· Maintaining accurate records of invoices, payments, and vendor information. Filling and organizing all invoices and supporting documentation.
· Weekly pay run via checks, wires, and ACH methods
· Communications with vendors and customers regarding invoices and payments. Resolve invoice discrepancies and or payment issues
Accounts Receivable: (Note: The posting of payments is primarily handled by Shared Services)
· Monitor customer accounts for late payments. When items become more than 60 days past due, reach out to customer for payment. Maintain accurate records of collection efforts and outcomes.
· Investigate and resolve any payment issues or discrepancies.
· Prepare quarterly intercompany billing for services rendered.
· Process credit memos and refunds as needed.
· Posting payments to customer accounts when necessary.
Auditing and Internal Controls:
Support audits and help maintain strong internal controls to minimize the risk of financial fraud and errors. This includes the evaluation of internal systems and making recommendations for improvements.
Other Duties:
· Support month-end and year end closing.
· Developing and implementing improvements to the AP and AR process.
· Ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
· Working with all departments to ensure approvals are completed and resolve any discrepancies, as necessary.
Essential Skills:

- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with accounting software and tools. Must have STRONG Excel skills - Advance to Expert level
GAAP Knowledge: A solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Conduct thorough account reconciliations, including balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Perform tax-related tasks, including compliance and reporting.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits to provide necessary documentation and support.
- Mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance on best practices and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with SOX regulations and other relevant accounting standards.
- Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Quicken, PeopleSoft, Sage, or Xero for various accounting functions.
- Prepare regulatory reports as required by governmental agencies.
- Conduct cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity and financial stability.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and financial modeling.
- Strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles and financial concepts.
- Experience with corporate accounting, non-profit accounting, or public accounting preferred.
- Knowledge of securities law, wills, trusts & estate law is a plus.
- Familiarity with auditing processes and financial services industry standards.
- Ability to interpret financial reports and prepare detailed financial report writing.
- Strong analytical skills for account analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate record keeping.
