Starting Salary Range: $68,075 – $81,690, commensurate with experience

Summary
Oversee financial operations related to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), managing a sponsored program portfolio exceeding $18 million. Responsibilities include grants and awards oversight, leadership and supervision, process improvement, cross-department collaboration, compliance and audit management, department operating budget management, and strategic decision-making.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
Staff Management: Supervise and manage the grants accounting team, including Senior Grant Accountants, Grant Accountants, and Grant Specialists, providing leadership, mentoring, and training.
Financial Reporting: Oversee the post-award financial administration of sponsored research, including award setup, budget monitoring, expense review, cost transfers, invoicing, and financial reporting. Manage the preparation and submission of timely and accurate financial reports to sponsors. Oversee and lead the drawdown and reconciliation of federal funds through payment management systems such as PMS, NSF, WAWF, DBH, OCJS, ASAP, etc. Prepare financial data for institutional and sponsor reporting, including reports for leadership, Board of Trustees, and external stakeholders. Act as the Authorized Financial Official for all financial reports and invoices. Lead the annual preparation and submission of annual reports (e.g. HERD Survey).
Fund Management and Auditing: Partner with the Sponsored Programs, Principal Investigators, and departmental administrators to ensure proper award management throughout the grant lifecycle. Serve as subject matter expert and lead resource for internal stakeholders on complex post-award grant issues, including allowable costs, effort reporting, cost-sharing, and sub-recipient monitoring. Monitor and reconcile grant receivables and proactively manage collection of outstanding balances. Coordinate and lead internal and external audits (e.g., Single Audit), ensuring proper documentation, preparation of the Schedule of Federal Awards, and resolution of findings.
Sub-Recipient/Contractor Monitoring: Perform due diligence, risk assessments, and financial/operational reviews of sub-recipients to ensure federal compliance. Design and execute monitoring processes, including desk reviews, data analysis, and reporting. Assist sub-recipients with financial reporting and recommend risk mitigation strategies to Sponsored Programs team.
Policy Compliance/Maintenance: Develop and maintain grant accounting policies and procedures in alignment with industry best practices and evolving regulatory requirements. Ensure institutional compliance with applicable federal and state regulations (including Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, DHHS regulations, NIH and NSF policies, etc.), sponsor-specific terms and conditions, and university policies. Stay current on changes in federal regulations and agency guidelines and communicate relevant updates to internal stakeholders. Act as primary administrator for SAM.gov.
Continuous Quality Improvement: Lead system improvements related to grants accounting and reporting; work with IT and ERP teams to implement process automation and data integrity measures.
Budgetary Functions: Develop and oversee Grants Accounting operations budget.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Business, preferably Accounting or Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience.
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience with 3 or more years in Grant Accounting Administration with prior OMB Uniform Guidance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Three or more years supervision experience.
  • Fund accounting and higher education experience.
  • Experience with SCT Banner.
  • Experience or training in methods such as Lean and Six Sigma Management, or similar philosophy of management courses

Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment.
