As we continue to expand, we are seeking a Director of Transportation Operations to help lead, structure, and scale our operations to the next level.
Position Overview
The Director of Transportation Operations will oversee all aspects of daily transportation services, including routing, driver management, compliance, safety, and client coordination.
This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strong operational discipline, problem-solving ability, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Routing
- Oversee daily route planning and execution across multiple districts
- Optimize routes for efficiency, cost, and timeliness
- Manage schedule changes, delays, and emergency coverage
Driver & Staff Management
- Supervise drivers and monitors (hiring, onboarding, performance)
- Ensure proper staffing coverage for all routes
- Conduct ride-alongs and performance evaluations
️ Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Massachusetts 7D regulations
- Maintain driver certifications, CORI, and training records
- Lead incident reviews and implement corrective actions
Client & School Coordination
- Serve as a primary point of contact for school districts
- Communicate proactively regarding route updates, concerns, and incidents
- Maintain strong relationships with transportation coordinators
Performance & Reporting
- Track key metrics (on-time performance, incidents, route efficiency)
- Identify operational improvements and cost-saving opportunities
- Support invoicing accuracy and route documentation
Problem Solving & Escalation
- Respond to daily operational challenges (no-shows, breakdowns, delays)
- Coordinate backup plans and emergency response
- Make real-time decisions under pressure
Qualifications
Required:
- 3 years experience in transportation, logistics, or operations management
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
Preferred:
- Experience with school transportation (7D) or similar regulated environment
- Knowledge of Massachusetts RMV and safety compliance requirements
- Experience with routing software or logistics systems
